    Folic acid (vitamin B9) belongs to the group of water-soluble vitamins of the B complex. As can be derived from the name (folium = sheet), this vitamin occurs primarily in green leafy vegetables. Folic acid -rich foods are tomatoes, cabbage types, spinach, cucumber, bread and baked goods made of wholemeal flour, potatoes, meat, liver as well as wheat germ and soybeans. Unfortunately, the folic acid intake with food is usually imperfect. The vitamin is lost through cooking and roasting. Dietary supplements therefore appear indicated.
