Summary
Propolis tincture 40% beekeeping quality
In Poland, Russia and Asia, propolis has been part of every medicine cabinet for generations - the amazing bee product has yet to establish itself in this country. Even the name itself causes problems from time to time - many call it Propoli, but the s at the end is indispensable. After all, the word comes from Greek and is made up of “Pro” = “before” and “Polis” for “city”. In essence, “propolis” does not mean “suburb”, but rather a “fortification”, i.e. a defense system of the city - and this is exactly the task that propolis fulfills for bees: it protects.
What is propolis used for?
Purely externally, propolis is a building material that bees use to improve their hive - the sticky substance ends up in holes and cracks to protect the bee home from wind and weather. But its invisible function is much more important: Propolis is used to disinfect and keeps the inside of the beehive free of germs. Installed at the entrance hole, the welcome doormat forces every arrival to walk over it and “clean their feet”. This makes it possible to keep the humming home free of viruses, bacteria and fungi despite constantly high temperatures and high humidity.
Good to know:
Today we have the opportunity to admire well-preserved mummies thanks to propolis. Because of the antiseptic effect of propolis, the ancient Egyptians anointed corpses with it.
What does propolis consist of?
Propolis is a resinous natural product that bees collect from trees and bushes and mix with secretions, pollen and wax. Depending on the region and bee species, propolis has a variable composition and consists of 300-700 different substances. These include:
Resins
Wax
Essential oil
Pollen
Minerals & trace elements
Vitamins
Secondary plant substances
And it is precisely to the latter ingredients that propolis owes its unique effect Mixture of aromatic compounds, phenolic substances, flavonoids, lignins and terpenes.
Green propolis?
The color of propolis varies greatly and is related to the season, geographical region and bee species. It can be yellow, green or brown - with all shades from mustard yellow to olive green to amber and cinnamon. The consistency of bee resin also varies.
Propolis Forms
Propolis preparations are available in different forms: as an ointment, cream, spray, capsules, powder or solution. We chose propolis drops or tincture because it is so versatile and easy to administer.
Propolis, honey, beeswax, royal jelly
The term “busy bee” is no coincidence – the buzzing insects are in fact extremely committed and creative. In addition to propolis, the well-known and highly valued bee products also include honey, wax and royal jelly. Honey is made from the nectar and honeydew of flowers. Wax is sweated out via the wax glands on the abdomen of the construction bees, mixed with spit and formed into honeycombs.
Royal jelly is a food juice that bees produce themselves to feed the queen. Unlike worker bees, which only consume the “jelly” on the first three days of their life, the queen receives the nutrient-rich juice throughout her life.
Storage
Store closed, dry, protected from light, cool. Keep out of the reach of children.
