Summary
Thyme leaves are mainly obtained for dietary supplements from two different species from the genus Thyme (Thymus). The real thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.), which is also known as humility or Roman thyme, and the Spanish thyme (Thymus zygis L.). These belong to the mint family (Lamiaceae). Thyme is originally native to the Mediterranean region. The small subshrub with purple flowers, which can reach a height of up to 40 cm, is mainly cultivated in Germany.

Thyme smells aromatic and tastes a bit spicy. The most important ingredient in thyme is the essential oil (thymol, carvacrol). There are also labiate tannins, flavonoids and triterpenes.
The dried drug is often used to make tea. But thyme can also be used as a versatile spice in the home kitchen.
This thyme syrup is produced according to the regulations of the Austrian Pharmacopoeia and therefore meets the highest requirements and high quality. It consists of an extract of thyme leaves in an aromatic syrup.
