Description
Iodosorb ointment is a sterile formulation of cadexomer iodine. When applied to the wound, Iodosorb cleans it by absorbing fluids, removing exudate, pus and debris and forming a gel over the wound surface. As the ointment swells, iodine is released, which kills the bacteria in the wound.
Benefits:
Supports wound healing:
- Effectively removes pus and residue.
- Promotes a clean environment for wound healing .
- The gel that forms over the wound facilitates moist healing.
- Accelerated healing rates can result in earlier patient discharge.
Patient Comfort:
- Does not adhere to wounds, reduced the trauma during dressing changes and protects the delicate epithelium.
- Cadexomer iodine absorbs 6 to 8 times its own weight in fluid, reducing the number of dressing changes required.
- Helps those with heavily contaminated wounds to reduce associated odor.
- For the treatment of chronic, exudative, infected or uninfected wounds
Should not be used in patients with known or suspected iodine sensitivity, a history of Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Graves' disease, or in non-toxic nodular goiter.< br> Should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Iodosorb medicinal ointment should not be used on children under 12 years of age.
Step 1:
Open the tube and squeeze the ointment onto a non-stick gauze in the shape of the ulcer and at a depth of 3 to 4 mm.
Position the ointment side of the gauze on the wound surface and apply gentle pressure to fix it.
Step 2:
Remove Gently remove the existing dressing, which should be moistened with saline if it tends to adhere to the wound surface.
Remove any remaining Iodosorb* with a gentle stream of saline or sterile water, if applicable. Gently blot excess fluid before reapplying Iodosorb.
Iodosorb changes color from brown to yellow when the dressing needs to be changed.
Patients with a history of thyroid disease are more susceptible to changes in thyroid metabolism in chronic Iodosorb therapy.
Iodine can be absorbed systemically, especially when treating large wounds.
In endemic goitre, hyperthyroidism has been reported in association with Iodosorb.
Iodine can potentially interact with lithium, sulphafurazoles and sulfonylureas, therefore administration is not recommended.
An adherent crust may form if the dressing is changed very frequently.
