Description

PRONTOSAN Wound Gel
Supplier: B. Braun Melsungen AG
Dosage form: Gel
PZN: 02855349
Product features:
Prontosan wound Gel
Instructions for use for cleaning, moisturizing and decontamination of acute, chronic and infected skin wounds and burns of the 1st and 2nd degree.
1. Introduction:
Chronic skin wounds are often covered with scab, necrotic tissue and/or a biofilm. These deposits are difficult to remove and lead to delayed wound healing. Proper wound cleaning is therefore extremely important. The use of Prontosan wound gel enables long-term cleaning and decontamination of the wound between dressing changes. Since acute wounds are generally contaminated with residues and microorganisms, they also require thorough cleaning. These impurities can hinder the normal wound healing process and lead to complications such as infection. For acute traumatic wounds that require suturing, Prontosan wound gel is applied after surgical care and suturing. Due to the unique combination of Ingredients (i.e. the antimicrobial substance polihexanide and the surfactant betaine), the wound irrigation solution prontosan is ideally suited to prevent the formation of a biofilm.
2. Product profile and areas of application:
For cleaning, moistening and decontamination of:
acute infected and non-infected wounds: traumatic wounds such as lacerations, abrasions or stab wounds (if suture closure is indicated, Prontosan Wound Gel should be used after the surgical procedure.)
chronic infected and non-infected wounds (especially hard-to-reach Wounds with bag formation), incl. arterial and venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers,
postoperative wounds.
burns caused by heat, chemical substances and after radiation therapy (1st and 2nd degree).
3. General application:
For optimal results, Prontosan wound rinsing solution should be used to clean the wound and the surrounding skin area before applying Prontosan wound gel. Prontosan wound gel should be applied abundantly to the wound bed. Cavities and pockets are to be filled with Prontosan wound gel. Wound dressings, gauze blanks, compresses or other absorbent materials can be moistened with Prontosan wound gel before applying the dressing. Prontosan wound gel can be left on the wound until the next dressing change. Depending on the frequency of dressing changes, different amounts of Prontosan wound gel are applied. The wound surface should be kept moist continuously to ensure adequate cleaning and disinfection. Deposits are gently peeled off and removed with the next dressing change. The application should be carried out frequently enough so that all deposits and necrotic residues can be easily removed and the wound bed is optimally prepared.
4. Tissue compatibility and biological compatibility:
Dermatologically tested and classified as non-irritating and well tolerated. Painlessly applicable. No inhibition of granulation and epithelization.
5. Side effects:
In very rare cases, a slight burning sensation may occur after applying Prontosan, which, however, usually disappears after a few minutes. Prontosan can cause allergic reactions such as itching (urticaria) and skin rashes (exanthema). Anaphylactic shock reactions have been reported very rarely (less than 1 patient out of 10,000 is affected).
6. Contraindications:
Prontosan should not be used:
for known allergies or suspected allergies to any of the ingredients of the product.
in the CNS or in the meninges.
in the middle or inner ear.
in the eye.
on hyaline cartilage and in aseptic joint surgery. If prontosan comes into contact with aseptic cartilage, immediate rinsing with Ringer's solution or isotonic saline solution must be carried out.
in combination with anionic surfactants.
together with cleansing soaps, ointments, oils, enzymes, etc. These substances must be carefully removed from the wound before use.
7. Restrictions on use:
Pregnancy and lactation:
There is no evidence of mutagenicity or embryo toxicity associated with the components of this product. Since there is no systemic reuptake of polihexanide, it is unlikely that it will pass into breast milk. Due to the lack of relevant clinical trials and clinical experience in pregnant and lactating women, the use of Prontosan wound gel in these people should be carried out only after careful medical consultation.
Newborns and infants:
Due to the lack of clinical data, Prontosan wound gel may be used in newborns and infants only in selected cases and under close medical supervision.
8. General safety instructions:
For external use only. Do not use for injection or infusion. Do not take. Do not use the contents of damaged bottles. Protect bottles from direct sunlight. Keep it safe from children.
