Description
The Mepilex Border Sacrum Complete Dressing is the only five-layer foam dressing for the sacral area with the company's Deep Defense Technology, when used with other standard prevention protocols, it is proven to prevent the formation of a pressure ulcer (1)-(6).
The design also creates one optimal healing environment for the treatment of moderately to heavily exuding wounds in the sacral area. The dressing absorbs the exudate and effectively retains it (7),(8). It also provides appropriate fluid balance, preventing maceration(9),(10).
This improved design includes new tabs and thicker edges, allowing for faster application and patient assessment. The sacral shape has been improved, particularly for pressure ulcer prevention, so that you can achieve good coverage of the highly vulnerable sacral area. The improved sealing of the buttock gap also ensures maximum protection. The dressing maintains a moist wound environment, which can aid debridement. The wound may initially enlarge. This is normal and is to be expected.
The optimized design also features Safetac, the silicone adhesive layer, which minimizes pain when changing dressings. The bandage lies gently on the skin without sticking to the moist wound (4), (11). You can easily remove the bandage without damaging the skin (5). This makes dressing changes less painful for your patients (1),(2).
Pressure ulcer prevention
A recent randomized controlled trial in the USA showed that Mepilex Border Sacrum significantly reduces the occurrence of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers, by 88% (3) You can use this bandage prophylactically in high-risk patients (2), e.g. B. in bedridden patients, patients with poor skin circulation and impaired skin condition, in emergency rooms, in intensive care units or before and during long surgical procedures. Scientific studies have shown that Mepilex Border Sacrum can protect against the four external risk factors that can contribute to pressure ulcers: it ensures a reduction and redistribution of shear forces, a redistribution of pressure, a reduction of friction and the maintenance of an optimal microclimate ( 1).
Note:
The prophylactic use of wound dressings does not preclude further development and adherence to a comprehensive pressure ulcer prevention protocol.
Size: 16 x 20 cm
Advantages:
- Proven to be effective to prevent pressure ulcers - by up to 88% - when used in combination with other standard prevention protocols (1)-(3)
- The company's Deep Defense Technology provides protection against external forces, pressure, shear and friction and ensures a optimal microclimate, the most important factors associated with the development of pressure ulcers (4),(5)
- Mepilex Border with Safetac technology minimizes pain when changing dressings (11)
- Excellent fluid absorption and retention
- Lower risk of maceration (9)
- Strong exudate
- Showerproof
- Impermeable to viruses and bacteria

- For moderate to heavy exudates Wounds in the sacral area, e.g. B. for pressure sores or surgical removal of pilonidal cysts
- Optimized for use in the sacral area
- Grip tabs for easy application and removal
- Slightly reinforced edge for easier application
The area to be protected or Prepare the wound area: Clean intact skin and dry thoroughly. Make sure the skin is free of skin cleansers, lotions, etc. The use of a wound edge protector under the dressing is not necessary.
The correct fit:
- The placement of the dressing must be adapted to the patient's anatomy.
- Ensure that the dressing rests on the skin; Avoid gaps and air pockets
1. Area to be protected/treated. Assess the patient's anatomy and determine the correct position of the dressing.
2. After preparing the skin/wound, remove the middle protective film; To do this, carefully pull on the pink edge.
3. Keep the buttocks apart. Apply a bandage to the upper part of the buttock cleft. The tip of the bandage covers the coccyx area.
4. Remove the side protective films one after the other and carefully smooth both sides onto the skin.
5. Correct placement of the bandage.
6. Press and smooth the entire bandage, to ensure that it is in complete contact with the skin.
Guide for skin inspection in pressure ulcer prevention:
1. Check whether the bandage is intact and fits correctly.
2. Gently pull on the handle tabs to tighten the bandage Remove the bandage from the skin.
3. Use the grip tabs to further loosen the bandage from the skin until the skin is exposed for inspection.
4. Maintain the bandage position on the buttock cleft, inspect and assess the skin.
5. Reapply the wound pad and the edge of the dressing.
6. Check that the dressing has been reapplied in the original position, making sure that the edge is intact and lying flat.
7 . Press and smooth the entire bandage to ensure that it is in complete contact with the skin.
For prophylaxis:
Mepilex Border Sacrum has been proven to help prevent pressure ulcers, redistributes shear forces and friction acting on the tissue and maintains them During the wearing time, an optimal microclimate of the skin is maintained (4),(5),(6).

- Assess the patient's risk of pressure ulcers
- If there is a risk, apply Mepilex Border Sacrum
- Check the skin under the dressing daily or according to the facility's instructions; To do this, carefully lift the edge and reapply it after checking
- Change the dressing according to the facility's instructions (the dressing should be changed if it rolls up or is dirty, saturated, displaced or damaged)

Advice for patients with fecal incontinence:
- Consult a doctor; Consider using a continence aid.
- Consider using a modeling strip on the adhesive side of the dressing at the point where the foam and edge meet and the dressing is closest to the anus.
