Summary
Persistent dryness of the surface of the eye leaves its mark on the sensitive cornea. The inevitable blinking of the eyes and the associated mechanical friction lead to irritation of the affected tissue. The consequences are eye redness, itching, burning and a painful feeling of a foreign body. The associated inflammatory processes can be very lengthy and cause long-term stress for those affected. In order to achieve long-term healing success in these cases, the eyes must be particularly intensively moistened.
The body's naturally occurring hyaluronic acid is ideal for sustainable and intensive eye lubrication. Due to its chemical structure, hyaluronic acid binds many times its own weight in water and holds it. It adheres excellently to the surface of the eye and forms an even, stable film of moisture that promotes healing of the damaged surface of the eye.
The heparin contained in HYLO-PARIN® provides additional moistening. This substance effectively supports the regeneration of irritated corneas and conjunctiva and thus ensures accelerated and sustainable healing.
The glycerol contained in HYLO-PARIN® has double benefits for the patient. On the one hand, this substance creates concentration conditions in the eye drops that are very similar to the liquid in the cells on the surface of the eye. This avoids a potentially painful concentration equalization between cell fluid and drip solution. However, glycerol has another advantage. Due to its oily consistency, it acts like a lubricant that reduces the friction of the eyelid on the irritated cornea.
In order to ensure gentle regeneration of the eyes, the preparations used must not contain any aggressive compounds such as preservatives. Preservatives that are intended to prevent eye drops from becoming contaminated during storage and use damage the cells on the surface of the eye. These substances destroy the natural tear film and can also cause intolerance reactions. Tear substitutes must therefore be free of preservatives. In HYLO-PARIN®, the patented COMOD® multi-dose system excludes contamination of the solution by microorganisms.
In addition to preservatives, the phosphates often contained in eye drops can also have a harmful effect. Reacting with calcium released from the cells of an injured cornea can produce poorly soluble crystals that worsen vision. Therefore, eye drops for moistening operated corneas and conjunctivas should not contain phosphate. HYLO-PARIN® is completely phosphate-free and therefore eliminates the risk of crystal formation.
