Description
The cups from the "Schliersee" series from the Bavarian manufacturer Theresienthal are real works of art made of fine crystal glass. The pattern is engraved cut by cut into the glass by a trained glass engraver. With great skill and years of experience, he works fine colors into the images, making the animals, patterns and plants on the glasses appear even more vivid and lively. The depiction of wild animals is almost as old as hunting itself. For most people, hunting has given way to the joy of nature. The classic animal motifs found their way onto the colorful cups and bottles from the SCHLIERSEE series. The animals and landscapes stand out subtly from the colored glass and appear three-dimensional and relief-like. The reason for this is the so-called color overlay, which the glassmakers apply to the cup as a wafer-thin layer of colored glass. Theresienthal lies in the heart of the Bavarian Forest, near the highest elevation of the forest mountains and a few kilometers from the border with the Czech Republic. Surrounded by forests and small villages, the glassworks is located in a picturesque river valley near the glass town of Zwiesel.

Since 1836, the year it was founded by King Ludwig I, Theresienthal has produced glass of the highest quality in craftsmanship and design. In the former Royal Bavarian Privileged Glass Factory, named after the Bavarian Queen Therese, every glass is still made exclusively by hand. Even back then, the requirement to produce for the court required not only the best glass craftsmen; The valuable glasses also had to be designed by artists. Today artists are designers. But what remained is the royal claim. The glassmakers, cutters, engravers and glass painters continue to work with dedication on the glass works of art. Our designers do the same with great empathy and detailed knowledge of glass techniques. The result is beautiful art and everyday objects that enrich your own living space. Glassmakers, cutters, engravers, painters and craftsmen from other glass trades have been working at Theresienthal since 1836. They have enormous knowledge and experience that they need to produce the valuable glasses.

Many have been working in Theresienthal for decades and quite a few are in the fourth or fifth generation. The manufactory still produces the wonderful glasses exclusively by hand. Starting with turning the wooden model, blowing in the glass, modeling the handle by hand, attaching the glass applications, processing the edge of the mouth and ending with the design of engravings, cuts, paintings or gilding: all steps are carried out by special employees of the Theresienthal ma
